It is my great pleasure to welcome you all to the 2020 FINA Diving Grand Prix. This annual competition brings together the world's best jumpers over eight stages, which started in Madrid (Spain) from February 14th to 16th, 2020.
Eight attractive venues on five continents are part of this year's FINA Diving Grand Prix. After the Spanish capital, the competition will take place in Rostock (Germany) from February 20th to 23rd. Then it's on to Windsor (Canada) May 14-17, Singapore (Singapore) May 29-31, Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) June 5-7, Cairo (Egypt) June 26-7 June 28th and Bolzano (Italy) from July 3rd to 5th. This year's Grand Prix will then conclude in Gold Coast (Australia) from November 6th to 8th.
The Grand Prix is a unique opportunity to raise awareness of diving around the world. It offers jumpers a platform to take part in an international event.
With the strong support of our national federations, sponsors and partners, as well as broadcasters, the FINA family celebrates diving by making it accessible in different regions of the world, attracting more athletes, more organizers and more spectators each year.
I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude and sincere appreciation to all National Member Federations and organizers of the 2020 FINA Diving Grand Prix. Your commitment, efficiency and support contribute to the success of this event.
Good luck to all participants of the 2020 FINA Diving Grand Prix.
Dr. Julio C Maglione
FINA President
Dear athletes, dear guests,
the International Springer Day is as much a part of our beautiful Hanseatic and university city as the Baltic Sea. For the 65th time, national and international artistic and high diving athletes are coming to Rostock to hold one of the most renowned competitions in high diving. I'm impressed that it's been possible to continue such a long tradition with great quality year after year. A heartfelt thank you goes to all those involved, because preparing such an event takes staying power, a lot of patience and a great deal of commitment. I know that there are many volunteers who are very passionate about it. They can all be proud of that. I was very happy to take on the patronage of the International Springer Day again this year.
From February 20th to 23rd, 2020 it will be that time again. Title holders and those who want to become one show their skills with power and aesthetics, speed and precision. Behind it is unbelievable diligence in training, discipline and deprivation. I have the greatest respect for all athletes. They perform almost unbelievable feats, astonishing and inspiring the audience. That deserves the highest recognition!
I am firmly convinced that the 65th International Jumping Day, which enjoys a good reputation worldwide, will also be a great success in the 30th anniversary year of our beautiful federal state - for the jumpers, for the organizers, the city and of course for the volunteers helpers.
I wish the athletes every success, the best of them victory and the spectators a lot of fun!
Yours, Manuela Schwesig
Prime Minister of the State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania
Strength, patience and elegance
Hello dear athletes,
Welcome to the 65th International Springer Day and 26th FINA Diving Grand Prix in the Hanseatic and university city of Rostock! We are happy to welcome the best water jumpers here.
The Springer Day in Rostock has been around since 1956. At the premiere, water jumpers from seven countries took part. Many Olympic champions, world champions and vice world champions have written sports history here. This is another reason why the event is an important highlight in the Rostock sports calendar.
Rostock is a sports city. Over 50,000 people regularly do sport in one of over 200 clubs. Because of the location by the sea, water sports are pursued here with great interest. Large competitions and tournaments are not only necessary to measure the strength of the best. They are also a great advertisement for the sport.
Diving is not only about strength and patience, but also about elegance. The sport has been Olympic since 1904. But diving is also very important as a leisure sport.
I would like to thank all athletes, organizers and supporters for their commitment. Good luck to all competitors.
Claus Ruhe Madsen
Mayor of the Hanseatic and university city of Rostock
Dear athletes, dear coaches and support team, dear sponsors, supporters, officials and friends of artistic and high diving, dear volunteer crew.
I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of you to this year's FINA Diving Grand Prix Rostock. The framework for this competition is an exceptional sporting event in northern Germany, maybe even beyond. Max Kinast and Heinz Kitzig came up with the idea of the Jumpers' Day just under a year after the opening of the "Neptun" indoor swimming pool.
Since 1956, the competition has established itself as an internationally respected ambassador for what we consider to be the most elegant sport in the world. Now we are holding our Springer Day for the 65th time. That's quite a respectable, solid age. Congratulations! Many former jumpers' day starters will mix with the audience this year. So there is a good chance that they will suddenly be sitting next to former Olympic and world champions. However, a sense of tradition alone is no guarantee of survival in the constantly changing world of sport. Not least because of the inclusion of Rostock in the FINA Diving Grand Prix series and the good networking of the dedicated Rostock team of trainers, we managed to survive the complicated post-reunification period and to keep the competition program and the framework conditions attractive for international teams.
Together with the Hanseatic and university city of Rostock and the state of Mecklenburg-West Pomerania, our association has been able to create the basis for securing the FINA regulations for the implementation of a Diving Grand Prix for years. Sports events of this type and quality can no longer be held without sponsors and supporters. Our club would therefore like to take this opportunity to expressly thank our long-standing main sponsor, Stadtwerke Rostock AG, Landesmarketing M-V, Intersport Gü Sport GmbH, HEAD, the InterCityHotel Rostock, RSAG, Handelshof Rostock, Störtebeker Braumanufaktur GmbH, Orthomol and everyone other companies, organizations and retailers that are no less important to us. On our website www.springertag-rostock.de (sponsors) you will find an alphabetical overview of all supporters.
I wish us all fair competitions and an exciting 65th birthday. Who knows, maybe we'll set a record for the number of participants or spectators. That would be a nice gift for everyone who cares about the future of Springertag.
